Greenstar underwent a Social Franchise program evaluation as well as an independent Population Service International’s Provider study found that, ‘Social Franchise Providers need support in developing their practice into a flourishing business and they look up to Greenstar for such assistance’. For Greenstar, it was identified as an opportunity to establish value addition of Family Planning and social franchising model in growing provider’s business.
Subsequently, Greenstar Social Marketing (Greenstar) initiated the ‘Provider Entrepreneurship Program’, between June 2017 and May 2018. The initial results of the program have shown positive growth for each preceding month with respect to income and profits. The overall Profits of the entire group showed a 68% growth in four months of the intervention. Family planning clients have grown during the intervention with cumulative FP clients of all providers rising from 1,340 to 2,199 displaying a 41% rise after the intervention. Greenstar’s Evidence department is further analyzing results to document and recommend ways to scale up the initiative for a larger, diverse group of providers.
Provider Entrepreneurship Program helped healthcare providers understand and adopt traditional small scale marketing practices, resulting in positive trends with respect to revenue generation, management of expenses, record keeping practices and subsequently creating motivation to serve family planning clients and developing a positive correlation between the socio-economic wellbeing of a provider and uptake FP services at their outlets.
After the initial success Greenstar aims to invest further resources to empower its franchise medical professionals by equipping them with business knowledge and skills, giving them a better chance for a sustainable presence within the communities they serve.
