A ray of hope for Gulzar Bibi
Baby Active brings happiness to rural families in
Pakistan
Tatral is a small rural area located in the Potohar
region of Pakistan and falls under the territory of
Rawalpindi District. Gulzaar Bibi, 35, is a peasant
in the village and belongs to one of the poorest families,
she works in the fields for hours at a stretch and
provides water from the local well in the evenings
to the few families that support her financially.
Gulzaar has had four miscarriages due to being aneamic
and unhealthy eating behaviors. She succeeded in giving
birth twice, but both infants died within the first
month after delivery due to being under weight. After
several years of counseling and getting medication,
Gulzaar gave birth to a third child, her only ray
of survival and hope, who again was born under weight.
The doctors warned Gulzaar that if she did not feed
Malik Inayat, her baby boy well she would lose him
as she lost her other babies. Gulzar promised herself
that time to eat right and to provide the baby with
supplements. One of Greenstar's field staff was visiting
the area and gathered a group and explained them the
importance of all GS products, Baby Active being one
of them. From the little money that Gulzaar made,
she decided to buy Baby Active supplements for her
child. "It is a product that I could afford
even though I was advised by my sister in law not
to waste money on it and to save the money for bread
and milk". Gulzar was adamant and continued
providing her child the product.
Malik Inayat is now a healthy two year old boy with
strong bones and very smart brain. He plays with all
the other children of his age group and is very intelligent
and fun loving.
Looking at her experience with the product, many
other women of the village have decided to use to
supplements for their infants to grow strong, healthy
and intelligent. "My sister lives in Saroba,
a nearby village and she has asked me to buy some
packs for her infant too" Gulzaar Bibi says.
Talking to her she said "I am a proud mother
of a strong child, my only child who did not fail
me, who I have hope in for a secure future, who will
in return give me healthy grandchildren like himself!"
Gulzaar now is a proud mother of one child and wants
to continue using the product till her child reaches
the age of five.
